Bir Fikir Adamının Romanı Ziya Gökalp’te Tür Sorunu ve Manzumelerin İşlevi
Mehmet Emin Erişirgil, with his work titled Bir Fikir Adamının Romanı Ziya Gökalp, aimed to convey the life story and ideas of Gökalp, whom he knew closely, to a wide audience. When the work is analysed, it will be seen that every information included in the fiction completely overlaps with Gökalp's life, in other words, the author insistently adheres to the truth. On the other hand, there is confusion about the genre of the work due to the fact that it includes long passages taken from Gökalp's articles and does not use narrative techniques such as depiction and analysis, which are important elements for fiction. In addition to this, when the publishers' savings such as indexes and footnotes were added to this, the work began to be seen as a scientific study. Despite all the assumptions and flaws, The Novel of a Man of Ideas Ziya Gökalp is a novel organised with elements such as plot, narrator, person, time and place, which are indispensable for narrative works. In order to reflect Ziya's intellectual and literary development, Erişirgil has included poems, some of which are the product of emotion and most of which are the product of ideas. Those expressing emotions are the reflections of Ziya's tragic moments such as depression, arrest and exile and are the ones closest to poetry. Other poems expressing ideas can be analysed in two periods. In the first period, when he had not yet found his intellectual and literary personality, the influence of Namik Kemal is dominant in terms of language, style and theme. The second period begins when Ziya going to Thessaloniki. In this period when he found his personality, Ziya became a guide to his nation by writing his ideas on language, literature, law, economics, education, women and religion.
