Using Contemporary Transversal Themes to contextualize the concept and representation of functions in High School

This article is an excerpt from a research that explores Contemporary Transversal Themes (CTT) as resources for contextualizing the teaching of functions, aiming at a High School Mathematics curriculum that considers Critical Mathematics Education (CME). Qualitative research with interpretative analysis was used in the study with 20 students from the Mato Grosso state school system. Activities contextualized with CTT and developed in learning environments were explored, focusing on the concept and representation of functions. The results showed that using CME as a support for activities contextualized with CTT enabled reflective knowledge development and fostered the development of mathemacy.
