Ultrafast Metaphotonic PCR Chip with Near‐Perfect Absorber (Adv. Mater. 39/2024)

Polymerase Chain Reaction Device The cover artwork showcases a metasurface-based, efficient, and low-cost photonic polymerase chain reaction (PCR) device using a titanium nitride (TiN)-based broadband meta-absorber that enables rapid heating and cooling of the PCR mixture, resulting in ultrafast DNA amplification using a compact single infrared LED source. The proposed TiN meta-absorber has significant potential for practical applications in clinical and environmental diagnostics and POC testing. Ultrafast thermocycling could significantly improve the efficiency of PCR, and its low-cost and high-throughput features could enable more widespread use of photonic PCR, providing more immediate and efficient care for patients. Abstract
