Cross-sectional analysis of lipid profile of patients treated at a multi-specialist clinical center — rationale and study protocol for the Jurasz Lipid Study (JLS)

Lipid disorders remain one of the most significant modifiable risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular (CV) disease. Understanding the epidemiology of these disorders is essential for better planning therapeutic strategies. The aim of the Jurasz Lipid Study (JLS) will be to analyze the structure of the lipid profile and lipid-lowering therapy (LLT) in a cohort of patients treated at a large, tertiary hospital in Poland. The JLS study is designed as a cross-sectional analysis of the patients treated at the Antoni Jurasz University Hospital No. 1 in Bydgoszcz, between March 1st, 2024, and March 31st, 2025. The analysis will include all consecutive patients, regardless of age or comorbidities, who had at least one assessment of the lipid profile during the study period. The hospital database will be searched based on the information provided in the medical interview forms as well as International Classification of Diseases diagnostic codes (ICD-10 and ICD-9). Gathered parameters will include the patient’s age, gender, anthropometric variables, and clinical and biochemical parameters. The CV risk will be assessed with the SCORE2 and SCORE2-OP scales. Information regarding LLT and present comorbidities will be collected. The analysis of the comprehensive lipid profile will include total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, apolipoprotein B, and lipoprotein (a) expressed in mg/dL. The JLS registry will provide information on lipid profiles of the population of a multi-specialist center. The inclusion of all consecutive patients treated at the hospital will yield a large amount of data for conducting a truly comprehensive analysis of lipid disorders in the study population.
