The influence of hypoglycemia on the specific quality of life in type 2 diabetes mellitus: A single-center, cross-sectional study to evaluate the link between anxiety regarding hypoglycemia and their spiritual well-being

Introduction: Hypoglycemia-related anxiety, also known as hypoglycemia anxiety, is one of the most significant issues that patients with type 2 diabetes face. The final aspect of health, spiritual well-being, has an impact on the psychological burdens associated with diabetes. The purpose of the current study was to ascertain how patients with type 2 diabetes's spiritual well-being (SWB) and fear of hypoglycemiaFOH related to one another. Material and methods: Convenience sampling was used to include 380 people with type 2 diabetes in the research. Data were gathered using two surveys from FOH (HSF-II) and Palutzian & Ellison SWB. Version 4.0.4 of the R software was used to analyze the data. Simple and multivariable linear regression, as well as Pearson's correlation coefficient, were employed in the investigation. Results: This study comprised 380 participants with type 2 diabetes in total. The participants' age and duration of diabetes were 56.89 ± 11.42 and 11.7 ± 15.55 years, respectively, with a mean and standard deviation of those values. Women made up the majority of participants — 244 (64.2%). The patients' mean scores for FOH and SWB were 13.34 ± 16.12 and 89.55 ± 14.32, respectively. The Pearson correlation coefficient revealed a substantial and positive association (p = 0.001) between SWB and FOH. Conclusions: Based on the findings, there was a corresponding increase in the SWB score with the FOH score. Increasing SWB does not lower the FOH, but it is an energy associated with human physical, mental, and social aspects.
