Floristic diversity and Community Structure of Illicium griffithii Forest Stands in West Kameng District, Arunachal Pradesh, India

This present study investigates the floristic diversity and community structure of two Illicium griffithii forest stands in two altitude locations i.e. 3 Kilo Bomdila and Duwangba of West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh where I. griffithii is naturally occurring. The study employed quadrat methods to analyze various ecological parameters, such as species richness, density, diversity indices revealing differences between the two sites. Greater number of species and families, species: genera ratio were observed in 3 Kilo Bomdila than Duwangba stand. I. griffithii showed highest frequency and abundance in 3 Kilo Bomdila than Duwanga. Altitude was identified as a key environmental factor influencing these variations. The findings also indicate predominantly clumped distribution patterns for most species in both forest stands. Ultimately, the research provides insights into the ecological characteristics of I. griffithii forests, highlighting the impact of environmental factors on their biodiversity. The study confirmed that due to large-scale collection of its fruits for trade and anthropogenic disturbances in the study area, I. griffithii has become nearly threatened which need for proper conservation.
