Alkaliphilus oremlandii an alkali stable amylase producing bacteria with potential application in bioremediation and industrial processes, isolated from the soil of Kamrup Rural district in Assam
Amylases belong to the class of enzymes that catalyze hydrolytic cleavage of starch into sugars. Although amylase is one of the earliest discovered enzymes, it dominates the market share of the global enzyme market. The increasing demand for amylase enzyme can be attributed to its application in wide range of industries like, food processing, textile, detergents, dish cleaners, pharmaceuticals and biofuels. The pH and temperature of the reactions utilizing amylases differ with the industry and the process involved. Thus thermostability and pH tolerance of the amylases are critical for industrial application. Alkaline amylases are required in various industries like detergent and textile. Alkaliphilic bacteria growing in alkaline conditions are potential sources for alkaline amylase. This study was designed to estimate the amylolytic potential of alkaliphilic bacteria grown in alkaline media.
