Impact of Concentration-Dependent Application of Deproteinised Leaf Juice on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Ambadi (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.)

Deproteinised leaf juice (DPJ) derived from Azadirachta indica (Neem) has shown promise as an effective organic growth enhancer, particularly for hydroponic systems. A study conducted using the petri-plate method during June–July 2024 assessed the impact of various DPJ concentrations on the germination and early seedling development of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (Ambadi). The research revealed that DPJ treatments at 40% and 60% concentrations significantly improved germination rates, as well as root and shoot lengths, and overall seedling vigour compared to lower (20%) and higher (80%, 100%) concentrations and the untreated control. These findings suggest that moderate concentrations of neem-based DPJ can positively influence early plant growth, likely due to the presence of bioactive compounds that stimulate physiological processes in seedlings. The study highlights the potential of DPJ as a natural bio stimulant, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic growth enhancers in soilless cultivation. Therefore, DPJ extracted from Azadirachta indica A. Juss., particularly at 40–60% concentrations, can be recommended as an effective organic supplement for promoting healthy seedling development in hydroponic farming systems. This approach aligns with sustainable agriculture practices and may contribute to enhanced crop performance without reliance on chemical inputs.
