Effect of Corneal Donor Education on Knowledge Among Healthcare Workers in Bali Province, 2023
Background Corneal opacities can result from infection, genetic disorders, chemical trauma, and autoimmune diseases, with a global incidence of 3.46% and 0.1% in Indonesia. Until now, the only available treatment is corneal transplantation. However, the number of corneal donors available is insufficient to meet the need for corneal donors. This is due to a lack of knowledge about corneal donors. Methods: This research is a quantitative descriptive research with a pre-experimental research design using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population consisted of healthcare workers in Bali Province, with a total sample of 35 participants selected using simple random sampling. Participants will be given a questionnaire containing 25 questions, before and after being given cornea donor education. The collected data were then analyzed using a paired T-test. Results: The mean post-test score was significantly higher than the pre-test score, indicating a significant improvement in participants' knowledge before and after receiving material regarding corneal donors (10.66 ± 2.05 vs. 15.61 ± 0.86; p-value <0.001). Conclusion: There was a significant difference in the level of knowledge among healthcare workers in Bali Province after receiving material regarding cornea donors.
