The effect of MgSO4 administration on serum nitric oxide levels in pregnant women with severe preeclampsia
Introduction: Preeclampsia causes severe morbidity and death in both the maternal and newborn populations. The study aimed to investigate the variations in nitric oxide before and after administering MgSO4 to pregnant preeclampsia patients. Methods: A one-group pretest-posttest methodology assessed the dependent variable before and after preeclampsia therapy at Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital. The participants were pregnant MgSO4-treated preeclamptic women. The collected data is then entered into a research form and examined using the computer program SPSS for Windows version 23.0. If the p-value was less than 0.05, the results were deemed significant. Results: The respondents' average age was 32.14 ± 6.70 years. The individuals' median gestational age ranged from 29 to 40 weeks. Following the delivery of MgSO4, there was a significant change in the nitric oxide levels, as demonstrated by analysis using the Wilcoxon test, with a p-value <0.001. Regarding the nitric oxide levels before the injection of MgSO4, the findings of the linear regression test in this investigation revealed no significant factors. Conclusions: Serum nitric oxide levels in preeclamptic pregnant women with severe symptoms varied significantly before and after MgSO4 administration; also, nitric oxide levels in study subjects increased following MgSO4 treatment.
