PSXII-23 Effects of reconstitution of high amylase corn flint Enogen Feed on fermentation parameters and in vitro methane.

Abstract This study aimed to compare the effects of Enogen Feed Corn flint (EFC) in its dry form and with different reconstitutions. For this purpose, automatic pressure detection modules (ANKOM, RF) were used to evaluate in vitro fermentation parameters, dry matter (DM) disappearance and methane concentrations at the end of 24 hours of incubation. The treatments evaluated were: 1) dry EFC flint; 2) EFC flint silage reconstituted with 27% moisture and; 3) EFC flint silage reconstituted at 35% moisture. The treatments were standardized using 2.5 mm particle size and evaluated in the following contrasts (dry vs. reconstituted and 27% vs. 35% moisture). The ruminal fluid donor animals were consuming 60% of forage. The ruminal fluid of each animal was combined with buffer in a ratio of 1:4, respectively. 150 mL of this mixture were added to each bottle with 1.5 g of corn DM sample. Data were analyzed using SAS Proc Mixed (9.4). Corn reconstitution increased the molar proportion of propionate (P< 0.001), reduced that of acetate (P=0.015) and reduced the pH of the fluid (P< 0.001) when compared to dry corn. The comparison of the 27% vs. 35% reconstitutions impacted the pH reduction (P< 0.001), a tendency for higher ammoniacal nitrogen concentration for 35% moisture (P=0.051) and without affecting acetate or propionate. There was an increase in DM disappearance for reconstituted corn when compared to dry corn (P=0.021), as well as when corn was reconstituted at 35% moisture compared to 27% (P=0.026). The variable mL methane/gram of degraded DM was lower for reconstituted corn when compared to dry corn (P=0.025), but with no significant difference between 27 and 35% (P=0.7836). In conclusion, EFC corn when reconstituted is superior to dry corn, with few fermentative differences when comparing 27% and 35% for the evaluated variables.
