Ecological Impact of Heavy Metals in Sugarcane Juice in Haryana

Sugarcane juice is widely consumed for its nutritional and refreshing qualities; however, contamination with heavy metals poses serious health concerns. The present study aims to determine the concentration of major heavy metals such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), and nickel (Ni) in sugarcane juice obtained from different agricultural locations. Quantitative analysis was conducted using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) to assess contamination levels. The results indicated that several samples contained metal concentrations surpassing recommended safety limits established by international health organizations. Health risk assessment, including both carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic evaluations, suggested that prolonged intake of such contaminated juice could lead to potential health hazards. The study highlights the necessity of regular quality monitoring, proper water management, and environmentally safe farming practices to prevent heavy metal accumulation and safeguard consumer health.
