SCRUTINY ON ANIDRA AND ITS MANAGEMENT WITH SPECIAL REFERENCETO INSOMNIA – A REVIEW ARTICLE
Nidra is one of the essential components of Trayopasthambha, and all the Acharyas have explained the im-portance of Nidra. Prakruta Kapha and Tama doshas are responsible for sleep. Anidra is defined as a deficiency or disturbance in the quality and quantity of sleep, resulting in an inability to fall asleep and stay asleep. Accord-ing to Ayurvedic scriptures, Anidra is caused by an imbalance in the Vata and Pitta doshas, which are believed to govern mental and bodily processes. Sleep disorders are a significant health issue in numerous developed na-tions. Insomnia can lead to a range of problems, impacting both physical and mental health, as well as daily life. These problems include daytime sleepiness, reduced cognitive function and increased risk of accidents. Ayurve-dic treatments are thought to address the root cause of the disease. In Ayurveda, some herbs, such as Ashwagan-dha, Brahmi, Jatamansi, Sarpagandha, and Parasikayavani, as well as Panchakarma therapies like Murdhni taila (i.e., Shiro abhyanga, Shirodhara, Shiropichu, and Shirobasti), Pada abhyanga, are helpful in calming the mind and inducing sleep.
