Abstract

Standardisation of a drug refers to the process of ensuring that a drug product contains consistent quality, potency, purity, and composition every time it is produced and used. Traditional medicines cater to approximately 85% of the world's population in meeting their health needs; therefore, it is essential to maintain the safety, quality, and efficacy of the plants and their products to prevent serious health problems. Drakshadi Ghrita, a polyherbal Ayurvedic formulation which is used as Ashchyotana, Tarpana, Pana, Nasya in the management of Kruchronmeelana, one of the Vartmagata roga. The present study reveals the pharmacognostical identification of ingredients of Drakshadi Ghrita and its physicochemical analysis. Pharmacognostical study shows the quality of both micro and macroscopic findings of Drakshadi Ghrita. Acid value was 3.78, Saponification value 249.03, Refractive index value 1.45781 at room temperature, Iodine value 6.77, Specific gravity 0.8960 at room temperature. Unique Rf patterns were recorded. Drakshadi Ghrita was prepared according to Ayurvedic and Indian pharmacopeial standards, as its analysis was essential to ensure the purity and strength of the drug.
