EFFECT OF CHUKKILIRATYADI CHOORNAM IN ADDRESSING PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA IN YOUNG GIRLS OF 13-18 YEARS OF AGE
Primary dysmenorrhea is one of the most common gynaecological illnesses in women during reproductive age, as well as the most undertreated and undervalued problem. It has a significant impact on the quality of life, in-cluding limitations on daily activities such as schoolwork. Chukkiliratyadi is a choorna Kalpana that has been mentioned in the sahasrayogam. Vagbhata has also mentioned this yogam in Ashtangahridaya, specifically in the two chapters, CGulma chikitsa and Kasachikitsa. Although this yogam is extensively used by traditional practitioners for the treatment of respiratory disorders, the ingredients of this medicine are shunti, thila, and guda, which are considered good vata anulomana drugs. As the primary cause of udavartini is vayupratilom-yam, this yoga can bring about a sufficient cure for those affected by udavartini. Aim: A study was designed to evaluate the effect of Chukkiliratyadi Choornam in the management of primary dysmenorrhea among girls aged 13-18 years. Methods: This clinical study was a pre- and post-single group study, based on a total of 15 clinically diagnosed participants with primary dysmenorrhea (Udavartini) in an age group of 13-18 years from the OPD of the Department of Kaumarabritya at Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College, Ollur. This is a single-group study where participants are treated with Chukkiliratyadi Choornam orally, 30 minutes before meals, twice a day (morning and evening), from the 14th day of a menstrual cycle to the 1st day of the next menstrual cycle. Follow-up was conducted after completing the trial course of the drug, from the 14th day of one menstrual cycle to the 1st day of the next menstrual cycle, with 6 grams administered twice a day (morning and evening), 30 minutes before meals. Result: The post-study analysis showed a significant change in the mean pain score before and after drug administration. Also, on comparing the number of days where the pain was present before and after drug administration as well as the number of episodes of pain on the first day before and after treatment, the mean value has decreased in both the cases which indicates that there is signifi-cant reduction in the number of days in which the pain has been experienced as well as the number of episodes of pain on the first day. This shows the effect of chukkiliratyadi choornam in the management of primary dys-menorrhea among girls aged 13-18 years.
