A CLINICAL STUDY ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SHIRODHARA IN ARDHAVABHEDAKA: INSIGHTS FROM AYURVEDIC AND MODERN PERSPECTIVES

Ardhavabhedaka, described in classical Ayurvedic texts as a Vata-Pitta-dominant shiro-roga, closely correlates with migraine in modern medicine. This literature review explores the efficacy of Shirodhara, a traditional Ayurvedic therapy, in managing Ardhavabhedaka, drawing insights from both Ayurvedic principles and contemporary scientific studies. Ayurvedic texts emphasise Shirodhara’s dosha-pacifying, mind-calming, and sleep-inducing effects, while modern research highlights its ability to reduce cortisol, enhance parasympathetic activity, and improve brain wave patterns. The review supports Shirodhara as a holistic, non-invasive intervention for migraine and recommends further interdisciplinary studies to strengthen its integration into clinical practice.
