Scenario Planning for Climate Change Adaptation in Brisbane Airport Corporation:A Reflective Evaluation

This paper presents a reflective analysis of the scenario planning process conducted for Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC), focusing on climate change uncertainties and strategic management. Drawing on academic literature, the study identifies three essential criteria for successful scenario planning: reliable and real-time data, a standardized methodological framework, and the integration of advanced technologies. The project developed climate-based high- and low-emission scenarios using PESTEL analysis, explored potential impacts over a 50-year horizon, and proposed a Solar Panel Project business model to enhance BAC’s sustainability strategy. Strengths of the process included efficient teamwork and a structured analytical framework, while limitations were found in the lack of quantitative modeling, probability assessments, and technology utilization. The reflection emphasizes the importance of data-driven decision-making, methodological rigor, and advanced analytics—such as big data mining and visualization tools—to improve the accuracy, depth, and strategic value of future scenario planning initiatives.
