IMPROVING SECURITY AND EFFICIENCY IN ACADEMIC PUBLISHING USING BLOCKCHAINTECHNOLOGY

Academic publishing faces ongoing challenges related to the secure verification of author and journal identities, inefficient workflows, and inadequate transparency. This study systematically investigates the application of blockchain technology-leveraging decentralized, immutable ledgers and advanced cryptographic methods, as demonstrated by initiatives such as crypto-pid Project, to transform these processes to address these critical issues within the scholarly communication landscape. The analysis reveals that blockchain substantially improves the security and reliability of identity verification by replacing centralized, error-prone processes with tamper-resistant digital records. It also streamlines verification workflows, reducing redundancy and accelerating academic publishing procedures, while fostering enhanced transparency and traceability that enable all stakeholders to authenticate authorship and institutional credentials with confidence.Notwithstanding these benefits, several implementation challenges, including scalability, governance, privacy, and cost, require careful consideration for effective adoption. The findings suggest that with thoughtful integration, blockchain technologies can markedly advance the integrity, efficiency, and trustworthiness of academic publishing systems.
