COMPUTATIONAL AND EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON CONICAL DIVERGING DIFFUSERS FOR ENHANCING WINDTURBINE PERFORMANCE: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

A significant feature of a wind turbine is the possibility of improving the power output by increasing the free-stream wind velocity. This enhancement can be achieved by using a diffuser. The diffuser generates a low-pressure area, thereby drawing a larger volume of air through it.Among the different diffuser designs, the conical diverging diffuser has been widely investigated for several decades owing to its simplicity and effectiveness.Understanding its historical development, various stages of research, and present status is essential for making it acceptable. This paper presents an overall review of selected research on conical diverging diffusers for enhancing the wind turbine power output.A total of 18 research case studies were studied, and the problem statement, methodology, analysis techniques, and important outcomes were systematically presented along with important figures.
