Performance of Alternative Fuel for Diesel Engine
Rapid depletion in conventional energy sources due to worldwide use of petroleum based fuels leads to increasing oil prices, global warming, and also air pollution. So there is need to do the research and development of alternative fuels to overcome the problem of depletion of conventional energy sources. The various fuels that can be used as alternative fuels are pure mustard oil blending with kerosene at different proportion like m20, m30, m40, m50 and M100 (pure mustard), methyl esters of vegetable oil, known as biodiesel, Jatropha-curcas as a non-edible methyl ester biodiesel fuel, methyl ester of mango seed oil and diesel blends, ethanol and diethyl ether as additives to diesel or biodiesel blends etc.The effect of these test fuels on engine torque, power, brake specific fuel consumption, brake thermal efficiency, exhaust gas temperature, were investigated by performance tests. The influence of blends on CO, CO2, HC, NO and smoke opacity were investigated by emission tests. The performance of mustard kerosene blends, Jatropha Oil and Ethanol(Biodiesel) showed that the BSFC is improved as compared with pure diesel.
