ON THE EFFICIENCY OF DURABLE CAST IRON
A method for improving the tribological properties of high-strength spheroidal graphite cast iron is proposed: chemical-thermal treatment in an atmosphere of superheated steam of a 3% aqueous CuSO4 solution. The possibility of replacing alloyed cast iron with cheaper gray cast iron is analyzed. The effect of localized hardening treatments on the wear and fatigue resistance of large crankshafts made of ductile iron was studied. It was shown that a combination of laser treatment and spark etching increased the shaft's service life before repair by an average of 35-40%. Addressing one of the key challenges in mechanical engineering improving the reliability and durability of machines is closely linked to the wear resistance of the surface layers of industrial materials. The crankshaft is one of the most heavily loaded and critical components of a diesel locomotive and practically determines the service life of the entire engine. High-strength spheroidal graphite cast iron is widely used for the manufacture of such shafts. The design and manufacturing technology of these shafts must ensure high wear resistance of the material while providing sufficient resistance to cyclic bending and torsional loads. Keywords: chemical-thermal treatment, alloyed cast irons, wear resistance of ordinary gray and alloyed cast irons, ductile iron, friction coefficient.
