FAULT ANALYSIS ON 132/33 KV CIRCUIT BREAKER IN TRANSMISSION COMPANY OF NIGERIA, IRRUA STATION, ESAN CENTRAL, EDO STATE.

This paper investigates faults occurring on the 132/33 kV circuit breakers during power supply operations, as many areas continue to experience severe shortages and frequent outages of electricity. When a fault occurs within the network, the normal operating conditions of the system are disrupted. If such faults persist, they can lead to significant consequences, including substantial load loss, property damage from fire or explosion, and serious economic impacts. In this study, energy availability was assessed, and the daily tripping rates of circuit breakers on each feeder were observed.Relevant data related to faults and outages were gathered from the operational logbook (Form OF 56) at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Irrua Station. It was also observed that certain faults bypassed circuit breakers and directly tripped the power transformers. The analysis revealed that the transmission and distribution infrastructure was in a poor state, characterized by substandard fittings, spans that did not comply with standard configurations, overgrown vegetation, and numerous tee-offs.These factors contribute to frequent circuit breaker tripping, resulting in outages and unreliable electricity supply to end users.
