Plasmonic ring resonator for biosensing and integrated photonics
This study demonstrates the design and optimization of a high-performance metal-insulator-metal (MIM) plasmonic ring resonator for advanced sensing and filtering applications. Through systematic geometric parameter tuning, silver-based resonators achieved exceptional quality factors ([Formula: see text]) and refractive index sensitivity ([Formula: see text]), surpassing conventional plasmonic sensors. The figure of merit ([Formula: see text]) was maximized at intermediate tunnel angles ([Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text]) and widths ([Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text]), balancing sensitivity and spectral resolution. Novel design maps revealed multi-mode regions supporting up to four simultaneous absorbance peaks, enabling unprecedented multi-wavelength functionality. These results establish a new benchmark in plasmonic device engineering, offering tailored solutions for biosensing, environmental monitoring, and integrated photonic circuits. The parametric optimization framework bridges theoretical models, advancing the development of next-generation nanophotonic systems.
