An Integrated Active Clamp-Based Asymmetric Half-Bridge Topology for High-Voltage High-Buck Intermediate Bus Converters

This paper presents a novel integrated active-clamped topology optimized for high-voltage, high step-down Intermediate Bus Converter (IBC) applications. A comprehensive analysis of the converter’s operating modes and performance characterization is provided. The topology incorporates an integrated clamp technique that effectively reduces secondary switch peak voltage stress. Enhanced Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) performance is achieved through increased total inductive energy. Furthermore, the proposed topology addresses the critical challenge of achieving near-zero DC flux across the entire operating range using an optimization technique. To validate the converter, a 1600/24 V, 1.4 kW prototype is developed. Experimental results demonstrate successful startup, steady-state, ZVS, and regulation, showing the effectiveness of the proposed topology in reducing voltage stress, eliminating DC flux, and reliable ZVS performance.
