Reversed-field pinch plasma transport simulations including the start-up phase
Abstract An integrated one-dimensional time dependent model for the description of plasma transport in Reversed Field Pinch was employed to simulate both the start-up and flat-top phases of plasma evolution. The model unifies the magnetic field dynamics and a two-fluid (main ions and electrons) particle and energy transport, as well as an additional treatment of impurity physics. A turbulent dynamo mechanism, which plays an essential role in plasma evolution and sustainment, is also taken into account. A careful choice of the set of free input parameters and model adjustments is shown to be necessary in order to simulate the entire plasma evolution.
