Name Signs in Bouakako Sign Language (LaSiBo)
Abstract: The use of personal references in Bouakako Sign Language (LaSiBo) is a central element of communication within this linguistic community. In this study, we examine the sign names of various deaf and hearing informants from Bouakako, highlighting the different strategies observed in name formation. Drawing upon previous research, we classify these sign names into two main categories: arbitrary name signs and descriptive name signs (Supalla 1992; Kourbetis and Hoffmeister 2002). This classification allows us to analyze trends and preferences in the use of personal references in LaSiBo, offering insights into the structure and dynamics of this particular sign language.
