Deficiëntie van foliumzuur en vitamine B12 zich presenterend als (pseudo)trombotische microangiopathie: een case-report en literatuuroverzicht

Folic acid and vitamin B12 deficiency presenting with (pseudo)thrombotic microangiopathy: a case report and literature review Deficiencies of folic acid and/or vitamin B12 can present with features similar to those of a thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). The underlying pathophysiology, however, is different. Therefore a TMA-like clinical picture secondary to these vitamin deficiencies is also referred to as ‘pseudo’-TMA. It is important to differentiate between a TMA and a ‘pseudo’-TMA. In this article we demonstrate a case of ‘pseudo’-TMA secondary to a deficiency of folic acid and vitamin B12. We provide an overview of the differences between a TMA and a ‘pseudo’-TMA and we discuss the existing literature about ‘pseudo’-TMA secondary to deficiencies of folic acid and vitamin B12.
