Accessibility in Academic Libraries

The current study explores the accessibility efforts of academic libraries in supporting patrons with disabilities, with a focus on the implementation of assistive technologies, accessible furniture, and other accommodations. A survey was distributed to academic librarians across various institutions to gather data on current accessibility practices, challenges faced, and areas for improvement. The survey included questions on the availability of assistive technologies such as screen readers, braille displays, and text-to-speech software, as well as physical accommodations like adjustable furniture, ramps, and accessible workstations. The study seeks to highlight the importance of ongoing investment in accessibility, staff training, and institutional support to ensure equitable access for all patrons. Additionally, the researcher hopes to provide insights for library administrators and policymakers in addressing accessibility challenges in academic environments.
