Mapping of Scientific Literature Trends on Biomass from a Global Perspective

This study presents a scientometric analysis of global biomass research output from 2003 to 2022. By employing a range of bibliometric indicators, statistical growth models, and classic bibliometric laws (Lotka’s and Bradford’s), the research aims to understand publication trends, collaboration patterns, and thematic evolution in biomass-related scholarly literature. Data retrieved from the Scopus database was analyzed using tools like VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel to visualize co-authorship networks and keyword co-occurrence maps. The results highlight significant growth in research output, particularly after 2010, with China, the USA, and India emerging as top contributors. Citation analysis revealed exponential scholarly impact post-2015, while keyword trends showcased a thematic shift towards carbon sequestration, biochar, and renewable energy. The study found no significant correlation between traditional citation counts and Altmetric Attention Scores, reinforcing the multidimensional nature of research impact. The findings offer valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and academic institutions to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, prioritize impactful themes, and enhance the visibility of biomass research within the broader context of sustainability and climate action.
