Recovery of Dimension Vertical of Occlusion with Fixed Dentogingival Prosthesis in the Upper Arch of a Partially Edentulous Patient: a Rehabilitative Clinical Approach

Esthetics is one of the main complaints of edentulous patients in the anterior region of the maxilla, where it is usually accompanied by a loss of supporting bone and corresponding soft tissue. The consequence of this deficiency can result in alterations ranging from speech and swallowing to even affecting the vertical dimension of occlusion. The objective of this clinical case report is to present a rehabilitation with a tooth-gingival fixed prosthesis. A 47-year-old female patient attended the Nilton Lins University dental clinic, complaining of dissatisfaction with the aesthetics of her old prosthesis. She was using a removable partial denture and wanted to replace it with a fixed prosthesis in order to avoid a surgical procedure. The adaptation of the oral environment was carried out before rehabilitation. Subsequently, the pillars were prepared to receive the complete provisional restoration in the maxilla, and in the anterior region requiring an artificial acrylic resin gum, providing support for the lips. The definitive dentogingival fixed prosthesis was manufactured according to the patient's expectations. The fixed dentogingival prosthesis represents an effective and accessible solution for extensive anterior bone loss. Its primary advantage lies in functional and aesthetic restoration, without the need for complex surgical procedures. Thus, it is established as a viable alternative that promotes the integral improvement of the patient's quality of life. Keywords: Dental Occlusion. Esthetics. Vertical Dimension. The consequence of this deficiency can result in alterations ranging from speech and swallowing to even affecting the vertical dimension of occlusion.
