Cytotoxic cycloartane-type triterpenoids from the leaves of aglaia shawiana

Three cycloartane-type triterpenoids have been isolated from the leaves of Aglaia shawiana, and the structure was determined as a new compound Shawianin A (1), along with two known compounds cycloartane-3β,29-diol-24-one (2), and (24 R)-cycloartane-3β,24,25- triol (3). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis, as well as high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS), infrared (IR), and ultraviolet (UV). Comparative data analysis was also carried out with appropriate reference journals and through a biosynthesis approach of the cycloartane type of triterpene compound. All of the compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic effects against MCF-7 breast cancer cells and showed cytotoxicity with IC50 values of >100 µg/ml.
