Mapping multisensory migration research
There are a rapidly growing number of studies employingmultisensory approaches to investigate migration. This article aimsto map the research from the migration-multisensory studiesnexus to establish common grounds on which this nexus can bedeveloped further. It offers an overview of sensory scholarshipwithin the realm of migration studies, presenting its corecontributions and directions for future research. The articlediscusses the transversality of the senses and the role ofembodied memory in these processes, the significance of sensoryexperiences in locating transnationalism, the interplay betweensenses and identity of migrants, and the influence of sensoryperceptions on social inequalities in the context of migration. Itsuggests that developing sensory-conscious theories andmultisensory methodologies enrich the analyses of migrationprocesses, especially in the realm of place-making, identitynegotiation and social inequalities in migration contexts, whileemploying multisensory methodologies can decentraliseknowledge production and foster more reflexive migration research.
