ANALISIS KINERJA EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE (EPS) GEOFOAM SEBAGAI MATERIAL TIMBUNAN

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Geofoam is a geosynthetic material that has a light weight but remains strong. This advantage makes it a popular alternative choice in many countries. This research focuses on the utilization of EPS geofoam to improve slope stability, with analysis conducted using Plaxis 2D software. The case study was taken from a slope in West Java that is prone to ground movement. The data analyzed included slope subgrade characteristics, EPS geofoam, and soil backfill as a parameter for comparison of EPS geofoam effectiveness. Slope protection was performed using a retaining wall structure, and analysis was performed on the backfill material consisting of soil and EPS geofoam. The analysis showed that EPS geofoam can improve slope stability as a result of higher factor of safety values compared to the use of soil fill. In addition, the use of EPS geofoam can also reduce the need for additional reinforcement in the retaining wall structure. These findings indicate that the use of EPS geofoam as backfill material can reduce the risk of landslides and speed up the construction time for slope protection.

Abstract

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Geofoam is a geosynthetic material that has a light weight but remains strong. This advantage makes it a popular alternative choice in many countries.
