EARLY EVIDENCE OF MOOSE (ALCES ALCES) RANGE EXPANSION INTO THE SOUTHERN WASHINGTON CASCADES AND USE OF INTERSTATE 90 WILDLIFE CROSSING STRUCTURE

In 2022, Moose (Alces alces) were observed on trail cameras on 2 occasions in the southern Washington Cascades. These observations represent the first known reports of Moose south of Interstate-90 in western Washington State and represent a possible range expansion for this species. We suggest that future census efforts include the southern Washington Cascades to document Moose dispersal to new areas of the state.

Abstract

In 2022, Moose (Alces alces) were observed on trail cameras on 2 occasions in the southern Washington Cascades. These observations represent the first known reports of Moose south of Interstate-90 in western Washington State and represent a possible range expansion for this species. We suggest that future census efforts include the southern Washington Cascades to document Moose dispersal to new areas of the state.
