Factores de adhesión y permanencia en el balonmano escolar: un estudio con jóvenes en Chile

Objective: the aim of this study was to describe and understand the reasons for enrolling in handball training programs among school-aged youth. Methodology: A case study design was used. The population consisted of elementary and middle school students between the ages of 12 and 14 from two municipal educational establishments and a sports club in a city in south-central Chile. Results: The results show that the main motivation for students to practice, join, and remain in handball is associated with the direct influence of the teacher in charge of the activity. Conclusions: It is concluded that, although a verbal invitation is an indicator of entry into the sport, the options of showing the workshop in physical education class and observing the workshop, among others, are entirely valid and provide a broader perspective for teachers who want to start a sports workshop from scratch.
