Study on vibration wave characteristics of Timoshenko beam subject to mass eccentricity
In the study of low-frequency vibrations of ships, submarines and other engineering structures, it can usually be simplified as beams with non-uniform mass distribution in the cross-section, while the mass eccentricity induces bending-longitudinal coupling. In this paper, for the bending-longitudinal coupled eccentric Timoshenko beam, the analytical expression of its cut-off frequency was derived; the influences of eccentricity on the longitudinal waves, propagating bending waves and decaying bending waves were dis-cussed. The analysis results show that the eccentricity reduces the cut-off frequency of the beam. The greater the eccentricity, the more obvious the reduction. The decaying bending wave transform into propagating one at the cut-off frequency. The eccentricity transforms the non-dispersive longitudinal wave into dispersive one.
