Numerical simulation on quasistatic fatigue performance of single-lap Al/Al interference-fit bolted structures installed by electromagnetic force
This study investigates the quasi-static fatigue performance of single-lap interference-fit bolted structures installed using electromagnetic force through numerical simulation. The effects of different interference-fit sizes on structural performance are analyzed to provide insights into optimizing fatigue resistance. The results demonstrate that stress concentration at the joint hole decreases as the interference-fit size increases. However, excessive interference can cause crack propagation and alter residual stress distribution, negatively affecting the material's fatigue resistance. It is found that an interference-fit size of approximately 1.0% provides the optimal fatigue resistance. At this size, the maximum compressive stress is minimized to 514.4 MPa, the variation in stress amplitude at critical point α is the smallest at 139 MPa, and the stress ratio reaches its peak at 0.51. This research introduces an innovative approach to simulating the quasi-static fatigue performance of electromagnetically installed interference-fit bolted joints, offering valuable insights for future experimental studies and engineering applications.
