The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in the textile sector: a comparison with the automotive sector

Industry 4.0 has been bringing substantial digital transformations to all industrial sectors, including the textile chain, which is considered a traditional segment that presents resistance to applying the technologies arising from this revolution. In contrast, there is the automotive sector, considered a benchmark for several areas. In this sense, this study aimed to compare the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in the textile and automotive sectors. The methodology used was a systematic literature review with the following stages: definition of search terms and strategies, election of reference databases, definition of inclusion and exclusion criteria, and designation of software to be used for screening. Based on the analysis of the studies, it is highlighted that the areas of logistics and, among the production lines, the confection line, are the textile sectors that seek a more significant application of technologies in their processes. However, at a global level, the textile industry has been hesitant to implement digital transformation, implying less use of Industry 4.0 technologies. The originality of the comparison between the textile and automotive industries. In addition, the presentation of a diagnosis of practices in the two sectors. The practical implications is to provide subsidies to textile companies for assertive decision-making. Keywords: Digital transformation. Systematic literature review. Fourth industrial revolution. Emerging technologies.
