Impaired functioning in patients with back pain

Back pain changes the patients’ life, decreasing its quality and disturbing professional activity. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of therapy with AMBENIUM® parenteral on restoration of functioning in patients with back pain under conditions of actual clinical practice. Materials and methods. The data of 100 patients acquired during the non-interventional multicenter trial were analyzed. The following parameters were assessed: pain severity on visual analogue scale (VAS), muscle syndrome index, Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire score. Results. After treatment the changes in pain severity on VAS were reported (mean ± standard deviation, median, cm): by -1.8±1.50, -1.0 after 2 h; by -5.8±1.84, -6.0 after 24 h; by -6.2±1.58, -6.0 after 72 h (р<0.0001); the share of responder patients was as follows (decrease on VAS ≤50%): 84% (95% CI 75.0–91.0) after 24 h, 94% (95% CI 87.0–98.0; р=0.0016) after 72 h. The analysis of the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire scores showed the following (mean ± standard deviation, median, points): 12.2±3.83, 12.0 before drug administration; 7.9±3.69, 7.0 after 2 h; 3.4±2.95, 2.5 after 24 h; 2.3±2.32, 1.0 after 72 h. Conclusion. The study conducted has shown that pain has a significant effect on the functioning of patients with low back pain. A single injection of AMBENIUM® parenteral makes it possible to improve functional recovery in patients with back pain against the background of pain management and muscle syndrome severity reduction.
