OPTIMIZATION OF URBAN PASSENGER TRANSPORT ROUTE NETWORKS
The efficiency of public transportation systems depends directly on the configuration of their route networks. Due to urban expansion and increasing traffic volumes, developing methods to adapt route schemes to changing passenger demand and infrastructure constraints has become an urgent issue. This paper presents an improved algorithm for optimizing urban land-based passenger transpor-tation networks, including routes for trams, trolleybuses (particularly those with battery-extended au-tonomous operation), buses, and electric buses. Particular attention is given to the criteria for infra-structure development decisions and the algorithmic process for identifying potential route options.
