Donor acceptor phenanthrenes and benzoquinolines: synthesis by C–H activation and their photophysical properties

A library of donor-acceptor or push-pull phenanthrenes and benzoquinolines (4-azaphenanthrenes) has been synthesized by cyclisation of cis-stilbene precursors using C-H-activation. The photophysical properties of the synthesized compounds have been studied.
