SKILL DEVELOPMENT PATTERNS AND COMPETENCY FRAMEWORKS IN ONLINE LEARNING PLATFORMS: A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS OF DIGITAL EDUCATION OFFERINGS

This study analyzes skill development patterns and competency frameworks in online learning through 1,139 Coursera courses. It explores how digital platforms organize skill offerings and their connection to learner engagement.A total of 2,847 unique skills were identified, with technical and business skills dominating.Complementary skill clusters appeared across courses, and advanced-level programs showed greater skill density.Statistical analysis revealed key relationships between course features and outcomes.Partner reputation and course duration were strong predictors of user ratings and engagement.A combined model explained 58% of outcome variance.Courses rated above 4.5 stars typically had high skill density, strong institutional reputation, and optimal duration.Institutional analysis showed technology firms had narrower specialization, while universities offered broader coverage.Professional certificate programs emphasized technical skills and had higher completion rates than other credentials. The findings highlight structural patterns in online education and support data-driven strategies for course design and competency development.
