Dose rate evaluation in the technical premises of the demo fusion reactor using the serpent Monte Carlo code

This paper presents a dose rate assessment within the DEMO fusion reactor's auxiliary premises, focusing on activated water and Activated Corrosion Products as primary radiation sources. Using the Monte Carlo Serpent code, we developed a simplified 3-D model based on Computer-Aided Design of the Water-Cooled Lithium Lead Breeding Blanket (WCLL BB) system. Two operational modes were modeled: an operational mode with activated water (isotopes 16N and 17N) as the primary radiation source and a maintenance mode where Activated Corrosion Products are the primary source. The biological dose rates and dose rates in silicon for electronic equipment were calculated. The results show significantly higher neutron and photon fluxes in the operational mode compared to the maintenance mode. The findings provide crucial insights for optimizing the DEMO reactor's design and radiation protection strategies before the construction phase begins. Future work will focus on a more detailed spatial distribution of dose rates within the reactor's premises.
