Sustainable Consumer in the Context of Implementing Sustainable Development Principles

This article is dedicated to studying the aspects of forming sustainable consumer behavior in the context of implementing sustainable development principles. Its aim is to explore the impact of sustainable practices on consumer behavior formation and justify the mechanism of sustainable consumption. The article examines the concept of sustainable development, which is a key direction for achieving economic, social, and environmental sustainability at the global level. It highlights the importance of changes in consumer behavior to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production) and SDG 13 (Climate action). It provides a detailed analysis of how consumer practices to reduce environmental impact contribute to decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving natural resources, and enhancing social justice. The study justifies the mechanism of sustainable consumption, based on rational resource use, waste reduction, support for environmentally friendly technologies, and social responsibility. The mechanism aims to form responsible consumer behavior that contributes to resource conservation, social equality, and economic sustainability, considering the needs of both current and future generations. The proposed mechanism is based on ecological responsibility, social justice, consumer education and awareness, and technologies to support sustainable development. The components of the sustainable consumption mechanism include integrating ecological, economic, and social aspects into consumer and production processes. The tools for implementing the sustainable consumption mechanism are multifaceted and include institutional, financial, educational, and technological measures that collectively create conditions for introducing sustainable consumer behavior, which, in turn, contributes to environmental preservation. Implementing the sustainable consumption mechanism will lead to significant ecological, social, and economic changes that will promote the formation of sustainable, more responsible, and effective consumer behavior, ultimately contributing to the development of the sustainable consumer.
