FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES ON TRANSHUMANISM: EXPLORING GENDER, IDENTITY AND HUMANITY IN THE AGE OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES

This study critically examines the intersection of feminism and transhumanism, focusing on emerging biotechnological advancements in reproductive health, and their applications and implications for cisgender women in Africa. Through an African feminist lens, a systematic review of 52 published documents and in-depth interviews with 20 Zimbabwean cisgender women reveal complex dynamics of power, identity, and cultural violation. This research underscores the urgency of an African feminist approach to transhumanism, built on social justice, equality, and human liberation. Through highlighting the need for context-specific, feminist- informed perspectives, this study contributes to the growing critique of the unethical implications of technology- driven transhumanism. Ultimately, it demonstrates the imperative of centering African feminist voices in shaping a technologically driven future that promotes personal dignity, human values and social justice.
