Zwischen Glitzer und Gedränge: Analyse der Wahrnehmung von Crowding und des Sense of Place von Touristinnen und Touristen auf dem Las Vegas Strip

This paper examines the influence of the perception of crowding on the overall satisfaction of tourists on the Las Vegas Strip and explores the role of sense of place. A structured questionnaire was used to survey 99 (inter)national tourists on the Strip. The results show that the perception of crowding is significantly influenced by social, personal and situational factors, such as the time of day of the visit and the presence of homeless people. The crowding on the Strip is mostly perceived as neutral to positive. No significant negative correlation between perceived crowding and overall satisfaction was found. sense of place could not be fully validated due to low reliability of place identity, however, place attachment showed a positive correlation with the intention to revisit. The results suggest that a certain crowd can be communicated as an attractive feature, while at the same time social and personal factors should be taken into account in order to optimise visitor satisfaction.
