REGARD DES ENSEIGNANTS DU COLLEGE DON BOSCO DE MASINA/KINSHASA SUR LE REDOUBLEMENT SCOLAIRE
ABSTRACT This study focused on the views of teachers at Don Bosco College in Masina/Kinshasa on repeating a school year. The study population was recruited from this college and data was collected using a survey questionnaire administered to a random sample of 50 teachers. The questions asked focused on the causes of student repetition, the contribution of teachers to student repetition or the responsibility attributed to other factors, and finally on the positive perception of students. It was assumed that the causes of student repetition would be more intrinsic than extrinsic. Teachers at Don Bosco College would attribute student repetition to factors other than themselves. They would have a positive perception of student repetition. The hypotheses were tested using a survey methodology supported by a questionnaire administered to 50 teachers. These teachers were selected using a purposive sampling method. After analyzing and interpreting the data, the following results emerged: grade repetition does not take gender into account. Among the causes of grade repetition, truancy, alcoholism, delinquency, and academic maladjustment were the most frequently cited factors. It was noted that teachers have a positive perception of grade repetition. However, in general, it was found that students who repeat a grade are able to acquire the skills to move up to the next grade if they are placed in a favorable learning context and environment. Keywords : Perspective, teacher, middle school, repeating a grade, school.
