Design of a Dual-Band Planar Rectenna with a Voltage-Doubler Rectifier for 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz
This paper presents the design of a dual-band planar rectenna operating at 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz for RF energy harvesting and wireless power transfer (WPT) applications within the ISM bands. The proposed architecture integrates a compact double-T planar monopole antenna with a rectifier circuit. The antenna is implemented on a CuClad® 217GY substrate, excited via a microstrip line, and optimized for a $50 \Omega$ impedance. The rectifier adopts a Greinacher voltage doubler topology combined with a dual-band impedance matching network. Simulations conducted using CST Studio and Keysight ADS confirm effective impedance matching at both 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz. The system was analyzed under varying input power levels and load conditions. The results demonstrate the feasibility of powering ultra-low-power electronic devices, such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) sensors, using energy harvested by the rectenna—even under low input power conditions as low as −20 dBm.
