A Protocol on Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT) for Vertigo Symptoms, bio-physiological Parameters, Functional Level, Coping Strategies and Quality of Life among patients with Vertigo at a tertiary care hospital, West Bengal-Randomized Controlled Trial
Rehabilitation exercises offer only limited and short-lasting relief for individuals experiencing vertigo . The aim of the study is to find the long-term effectiveness of virtual reality therapy ( VRT) in reducing vertigo symptoms along with other variables. All participants undergo the initial assessments to diagnose unilateral peripheral vestibulopathy. After obtaining informed consent, standardized questioners; 1) Vertigo symptoms Short form scale, 2) Dizziness Handicap Inventory, 3) BRCS scale and 4) Short Form-36V2 Scale are used to assess vertigo symptoms, quality of life, bio-physiological parameters, functional level and coping strategies. Participants in the experimental group and the control group are recruited by randomization. After intervention, follow-up is done at three different intervals: 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. This study will demonstrate the long-term effectiveness of VRT in managing vertigo symptoms. This may also help to standardize the VRT as a rehabilitation modality for vertigo and implement it as regular care.
