STUDY OF OUTCOME OF SEPTOPLASTY-WITH AND WITHOUT SPREADER GRAFT IN TERMS OF PRE- AND POST-OPERATIVE NOSE SCORE
Objective: To compare the functional outcome of septoplasty in patients with high deviated nasal septum with and without spreader graft in terms of pre-and post-operative NOSE scores. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted among 60 patients, with high deviatednasal septum as the sole attributor to nasal obstruction, over a period of 2 years. The patients underwent septoplasty with or without spreader graft based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were assessed in terms of mean pre- and post-operative (at 1st and 3rd month follow up) NOSE scores and the data analysed. Both groups (patients undergoing septoplasty with spreader graft Results: and those without) had preoperative NOSE scores of 82.33 ±6.51 in the rst group and 81.46 ±7.04 in the second group respectively. Postoperatively, the group with spreader graft had mean NOSE score of 52±6.76 and 16.64 ±6.78 on follow up in the 1st month and 3rd month respectively, suggestive of signicant improvement in post-operative functional outcome(p<0.05). In the second group, mean NOSE score of 65.29±4.78 and 35.81±6.17 was noted in the 1st month and 3rd month of follow up post-operatively, which is statistically not signican. (p>0.05). Conclusion: Septoplasty with spreader graft shows signicant subjective and functional improvement in comparison to septoplasty without spreader graft in cases of high septal deviation with internal nasal valve compromised.
